Some businesses just don’t understand that their website is their most powerful marketing tool. Day after day I see local businesses pouring thousands of dollars every year into that little yellow pages ad that they hope someone will come across. Well as it is clearly stated on the home page of this site, “Yellow pages are dead”. No one uses them anymore. Why look for the phone book and flip through the thousands of pages when you can just type what you are looking for in Google and get near instant, qualified results? Many local small businesses aren’t picking up on this. Not only does having a clean designed, optimized site for your business make you look more professional, but it also increases awareness of your company. Search engine marketing is the most cost effective form of advertising. It also returns the biggest ROI. This is because you are bringing in targeted, pre-qualified prospects to your site. Other traditional forms of advertising can’t do this. The television or magazine ad doesn’t know whether you need scented baby diapers or not. If your company ranked first on Google for “scented baby diapers” what percentage of people that click to your site do you think needs scented baby diapers? Probably all 100%!. Local businesses need to realize that and stop wasting money with yellow page ads. If you own a business, people are probably searching for you or your services on the internet.     This is why most small businesses fail! (Or at least one of the main reasons today) Not necessarily marketing online but just smart marketing in general. They think “if I build it they will come”. The ones who figure out how to capture people and lead them into sales are the businesses that succeed. Very well put!

    Your point on the difference between a somewhat interested prospect and a focus targeted prospect with the online vs. traditional forms of advertising is absolutely correct. This is what sets my company apart from other local competitors.
